Halloween Family Fun

Bring your family together at our Halloween themed Family Fun Night Oct. 30 at the Sierra Mountain Education Center, 11603 Donner Pass Road, Truckee. There will be a costume contest for all ages with prizes, Halloween carnival games, and a free dinner! This is a free event, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Call 587-2513 for information.

Girls on the Run Halloween Fun Run

Participate in a non-competitive family-friendly run/walk where everyone is a winner. Runners, walkers, children and strollers welcome. No dogs please! Event festivities include music, food, great raffle and games. Halloween costumes are encouraged. Registration and pre-race festivities begin at 9 a.m.; run starts at 10 a.m. Pre-registration online is $20 per person through Oct. 30. Visit www.girlsontherunsierras.org. On race day, $25 per person. Race to be held at Truckee River View Sports Park, 12200 Joerger Drive, off Soaring Way.

Halloween/Day of the Dead Weekend

Oct. 31, Clair Tappaan Lodge is planning a costume parade, games, pumpkin carving (bring your own pumpkin and tools), a piñata and other fun ghoulish activities that are not just for kids. Bring kids for a safe, sane and fun Halloween. Explore another cultural view of the passing of loved ones during Day of the Dead festivities. Bring memorabilia of someone in your life who has died to honor them. You are invited to make and bring an altar or some remembrance. Prepare it in advance, or you just bring a photo to add to the “Ofrenda.” This Mexican celebration offers a different way to view our ancestors, a joyous way, not at all macabre. Howl-oween at The Rock

Second Annual Pet Parade and Costume Contest, Oct. 31, 4 p.m. at the Rock multi-use complex center. Enjoy live music, beer and wine from FiftyFifty Brewing Co., pizza and a mini trick-or-treating to start off your night! Canines and their owners will also be rewarded prizes for best costume, crowd favorite and more with hundreds of dollars in prizes and gifts! Call 550-2252.

Village at Squaw Valley

Guess the weight of the giant pumpkin: Visit the pumpkin on the Village's main stage anytime through Oct. 31, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., fill out a guess sheet, then drop your guess into the bin. Winner will receive a prize from The Village.

Great Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt: Pick up a Scavenger Hunt sheet, available at The Village front desk, and take part anytime through Oct. 31 between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Oct. 31, Safe street trick or treating throughout The Village's restaurants and shops on Halloween, noon-6 p.m.

Oct. 30., Auld Dubliner, Costume party with the Jeff Jones Band, beginning at 9 p.m.

Oct. 31, Halloween Bash, featuring a DJ beginning at 9 p.m.

October Country Festival

Saturday, Oct. 31, movie. The Boys & Girls Club of North Tahoe (Community Room), Oct. 31, 6 to 9 p.m., 546-4324. The modern myth exhibit, Tahoe anime, leather masks art. Dancer Rya Kirby will perform a dance/pantomime to a musical reading of Edgar Allan Poe's “The Raven.”

Downtown Tahoe City

Scarecrows on Parade, through Oct. 31, in Downtown Tahoe City. Stroll through downtown and see scarecrows created by local business, nonprofit organizations and schools. Cast your vote for favorite scarescrow and be entered to win local prizes. Call 583-334. Downtown Halloween Trick or Treat from 4-6 p.m. Come dressed up in your spookiest attire and trick or treat through Downtown Tahoe City. This event is sponsored by the merchants of Tahoe City and the TCPUD Parks and Recreation Department. Meet at Heritage Plaza to start out.

River Ranch Lodge Bash

Eighth Annual Halloween Bash at the river Ranch Lodge, Corner Highway 89 and Alpine Meadows Road, Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the bar. Complimentary appetizers, costume contest with prizes, $2.50 featured draft and $3 smashed pumpkin punch. Call 583-4264 for info.
