Elijah Bleu's to offer hand-crafted coffee and local, organic fare with a southern flair
TRUCKEE — Downtown Truckee will get a taste of hand-crafted coffee drinks, along with authentic southern flavors, hospitality and a touch of voodoo when Elijah Bleu's House of Coffee & Good Eats opens late November.
Construction has begun on the former Isabella O's space in the historic Loading Dock building. Elijah Bleu's will be open for breakfast and lunch, with coffee drinks served all day featuring a healthy, organic menu inspired by owners John and Dawn Evans' history with, and love of, the South.
“I'm from Georgia,” said John Evans. “We didn't want our new coffee house to have the standard Tahoe look and feel. We are creating a theme that is unique and different, with a southern kick.”
Coffee will be the number one priority at Elijah Bleu's, Evans said. Also, light menu items will fuse southern flavors with organic and healthy takes on traditional coffee house fare.
“We've heard a lot of people say we need food that's fast and healthy downtown, which is not easy to do with traditional southern food,” Evans said. “But we've been working with a local chef to adapt that down-home style of cooking to more healthy options, using local and organic ingredients whenever possible.”
The Evans own several other local businesses, including TahoeStaff, a staffing and recruiting firm, and Denali Group, a management consulting firm.
