TAHOE CITY, Calif. — A man detectives are calling a “serial burglar” who they say took part in a series of recent Lake Tahoe burglaries faces numerous felony charges and remains jailed on $750,000 bail.
David Virgil Moody, 36, of Tahoe City, was arrested Friday, Nov. 6, in Reno by Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies and Reno Police after Tahoe City-based Placer County Sheriff's detectives tracked him down the hill.
Sgt. John Giovannini said Moody allegedly had connections with victims of burglaries over the past two weeks in Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Northstar and the West Shore. Victims reported missing flatscreen televisions and power tools. He is also a parolee from Florida, Giovannini said, which tipped detectives to his presence.
Noticing a pattern of burglaries, about 10 over 10 days, Giovannini said, deputies started keeping tabs on Moody and followed him from Tahoe City into Verdi and Reno, where Moody allegedly was casing homes.
“At that time we notified Washoe to his presence,” Giovannini said.
Moody had allegedly burglarized a Reno home by the time WCSO officers arrested him on charges of burglary (two counts), possession of stolen property (two counts), unlawful possession of property, grand larceny (two counts) and fugitive fleeing justice. He is in custody in Reno at the Washoe County detention facility. No court date has been set.
Among stolen property allegedly found in Moody's possession was a snowblower reported stolen from a Tahoe home, Giovannini said. He said Moody is also suspected in connection with some flatscreen burglaries, but there may be other suspects.
“We probably have other burglars out there now since another TV was stolen since he was arrested,” Giovannini said.
A release from the Placer County Sheriff's Department urged anyone with information on other burglaries or burglars to call the investigations team at (530) 581-6320.
