Cheers and Jeers

CHEERS: To the move by regional congressional leaders recently to attempt to secure $415 million for the future of Lake Tahoe's environmental protection. As developable land gets eaten up in the arid west, developers and energy scouts will continue to look to our wilderness areas as a last refuge, and it takes a partnership between private, local advocates and our representatives on the the hill to keep them pristine ... and it's never easy.

JEERS: To the recall signs still nailed into trees around Tahoe City. We should always be keen to remove political signs as soon as we can after an election or petition effort, especially when politics are drilled into our forests.

CHEERS: To our favorite headline recently: “Lake Tahoe construction projects shut down for winter.” Enough said.

JEERS: To the restlessness of fall. While we know not everyone wants to see summer pass, we're ready for the playful spirit that winter seems to instill in our communities. In the fall, we see our neighbors doing too many chores. Here's a salute to the upcoming holiday season. Let's make it a good one, and as stress free as possible.
