Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam
SnowBomb and Squaw Valley USA will team up to host the Third Annual Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam on Friday, Dec. 11. SnowBomb will donate all competitor registration fees to the Coogan Kelly Memorial Foundation. The rail jam is open to riders of all ages and talents and consists of both men's and women's ski and snowboard divisions. Registration is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside Dave's Deli. The competition begins at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $10 for all competitors, plus a $10 jersey deposit, to be refunded after event. The event is free for spectators. Athletes under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at registration to sign a liability release form.
Les Miller Youth Basketball League
The Les Miller Youth Basketball League will take registration for its winter season at the Tahoe City PUD Parks and Recreation office until Dec. 11. The league, for boys and girls in grades Kindergarten through eighth, runs from mid January to March. Games are played Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays. Cost is $80 for non-residents and $75 for residents. Locations will include Tahoe City, Incline Village and Kings Beach. Coaches and sponsors are needed for each team. Contact the Park and Recreation Department at 583-3440, extension 10 or 11.
Tahoe Triple Crown Climbing Series
High Altitude Fitness in Incline Village will host the inaugural Tahoe Triple Crown Climbing Series on Dec. 5, Feb. 13 and April 3. Entry fee is $20 per event, or $40 for all three. Competitors' points will be added up throughout the events, with winners crowned at the finals on April 3. There will gear prizes for the top three places in each category, as well as a $3,000 cash purse for the Open Category to be given out at the finals, and $5,000 in other gear and prizes. Coed field hockey pickup games
All experience and age levels are welcome to play indoor field hockey this winter at North Tahoe High School. Extra sticks are available to borrow and in the spring they change to outdoor play. This is coed and beginners are invited. For information call (630) 401-4091.
Glen Jobe to offer biathlon clinics at Northstar
Former U.S. Olympic Team biathlete Glen Jobe will teach private, three-hour biathlon clinics at the Northstar Resort Cross-Country, Telemark & Snowshoe Center this winter. Clinics will be offered Monday through Friday, non-holidays, and by appointment only (conditions permitting). Reservations must be made 48 hours in advance. Participants must be 13 or older, with a minimum of an intermediate level of skill. Cost is $199 for the first person and $50 for each additional person (up to four). Call for adaptive skiing volunteers
Disabled Sports Far West at Alpine Meadows Resort is looking for volunteers to help teach people with disabilities learn how to downhill ski and snowboard. The volunteer must be a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder and have a desire to share the “mountain experience” with students. A two-day mandatory training is provided.
