TRUCKEE, Calif. — Many of the roads in the Lake Tahoe basin have road controls due to a heavy snow storm, which is expected to accumulate anywhere from 20 to 30 inches of snow in Truckee by Monday night.

Highways 50, 28, 207 and 431 require motorists to have snow tires or chains. Highways 89 and 267 require chains for all vehicles except for those with four-wheel drive. Chains are mandatory on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe west of the Nevada state boarder. Chains are also mandatory on Interstate 80 from 1 mile west of Floriston, Calif. to Alta, Calif.

Ski areas were reporting up to 3 feet of much-needed snow regionally, as the snow continues to fall around the area. Avalanche dangers were rated as high and increasing in danger, especially on northern aspects, reports the Sierra Avalanche Center.
