TAHOE/TRUCKEE — Starting Dec. 17, Truckee and North Lake Tahoe residents and visitors will have a range of ski resort and night shuttle options for getting around the mountains.
Both the North Lake Tahoe night shuttles, which start at 6:30 p.m., and ski resort shuttles to Northstar, Squaw Valley, Homewood, Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Soda Springs and Donner Ski Ranch will run through April 4.
“We've always worked with all the ski resorts,” said Jan Colyer, executive of the Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association. “But this year we've added 2 buses to Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch and Soda Springs — it's going to be way better service.
“We're making it work at a time when there is no more money to spend through partnerships,” Colyer said.
Both the ski shuttles and night routes are free to riders, she said.
The north Lake Tahoe night shuttles, which connect to Northstar, run from 6:30 to midnight, and to 3 a.m. on New Year's Eve.
Truckee will not have a night shuttle this winter.
“Last winter we had over 36,000 riders on the night shuttle, up 15 percent from the year before,” Colyer said. “Truckee on the other hand — we tried it for two years and it just didn't take off.”
And while local ridership on the Tahoe Area Regional Transit day buses was up last winter, Colyer said she expects a dip with fewer international workers in the basin this year.
Basic rates start at $1.75 one way or $.85 for seniors and the disabled, with a variety of options including 24-hour passes, 10-ride passes, 14- and 30-day passes.
