TRUCKEE, Calif. — A settlement may soon be reached in the arson case in which a local chiropractor is accused of burning her home and two other buildings earlier this year.
Dr. Erinn Tamney Randall pleaded not guilty this summer to burning her Glenshire home, a downtown Truckee chiropractic office and a building in Loyalton, all in the first week of June.
Nevada County Deputy District Attorney Bill Cornell said this week Randall's defense team is seeking a deal involving two guilty pleas, while Cornell is looking at charges for all three crimes.
“I'm considering whether or not to take the plea,” Cornell said. “We're in the same ball park, wrangling over some fairly technical details.”
The negotiation would land on a potential range of jail time — Cornell said he is recommending state prison time — which will be selected from ultimately by Nevada County Superior Court Judge C. Anders Holmer.
A pair of pre-trial hearings are scheduled for Dec. 15, 2009, and Feb. 16, 2010, and, if a deal is not reached, the first jury trial date is set for March 3, 2010, in Truckee, Cornell said.
Randall could face a maximum of nine years in prison, Cornell said, and is still in custody in Nevada County Jail in Grass Valley.
Her initial bail was set at $1 million, but was later reduced to $250,000, Cornell said.
