People the world over are dedicated to sustaining the Olympic ideal. In 1960, much of what is now Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park hosted the 1960 cross-country ski venue. Competitors raced over 57 kilometers of trail through the General and McKinney Creek areas. Jan. 8-17 these historic venues will come alive with the Olympic spirit with special events on the west shore of Lake Tahoe.
A dedicated team of volunteers is needed to bring the Olympic spirit alive to host five special events: The Biathlon Re-enactment, Cross Country Expo and Demo, Local Schools Cross-Country Ski Day, Sanctioned CNISSF High School Nordic Meet and a Biathlon “Citizens Against the Clock” ski.
Volunteer opportunities include parking attendants, visitor information center helpers, vendor assistants and trail sweepers. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to be part of something very special. There is an assignment for any dependable volunteer. Get involved with the community and meet your neighbors.
All volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation session at Sugar Pine Point State Park Sunday, Jan. 3 or Monday, Jan. 4. Both sessions will begin at 11 a.m. and last approximately one hour. All volunteers who commit to a minimum of four hours will receive a commemorative Olympic Heritage pin as a small token of appreciation. Most importantly, all volunteers will be bringing the Olympic spirit back to the west shore of Lake Tahoe!
