OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. — The chakra rock experience continues.
The lineup has been announced for the second Wanderlust Festival, a four-day yoga and music event at Squaw Valley USA.
Here are the artists for the July 29-Aug. 1 experience:
Music: Moby, Bassnectar, Brazilian Girls and Pretty Lights, Yard Dogs Road Show, Beats Antique, Rupa & The April Fishes, MC Yogi, Orgone, Princess Superstar, Dave Stringer, DJ Dragonfly, Ana Sia, The Mayapuris, Shaman's Dream, Rara Avis and Desert Dwellers.
Yoga: Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Baron Baptiste, Duncan Wong, Elena Brower, Schuyler Grant, Doug Swenson, Jason Nemer & Jenny Sauer-Klein (the Acroyogis), Janet Stone, Les Leventhal, Rusty Wells, Sianna Sherman, Annie Carpenter, Vinnie Marino, Brock & Krista Cahill, Suzanne Sterling and Maya Fiennes.
Tickets can be purchased at www.wanderlustfestival.com. Prices start at $340 for a three-day Seeker pass and $420 for a four-day Sage pass. Every Wanderlust yoga and music ticket includes three classes per day with a choice of plus access to the Kula Village, High Camp, the cable car, and all music events on that day. Prices are inclusive of service fees. Music-only tickets go on sale May 4.
More than 5,000 attended last summer's first Wanderlust, which received national attention. “Breathe in, rock out,” was a description used by the New York Times.
Wanderlust is the brainchild of Grant, a yoga instructor and actress, and her husband Jeff Kranso, a Brooklyn music promoter.
“It was an incredibly positive experience for us,” Kranso said last summer. “It seems like everybody had a really, really great time.”
Kranso initially envisioned having several summertime Wanderlust events throughout North America. With its infrastructure and Olympic history, Squaw Valley was Kranso's choice to hold the first event, one which said he could learn from before adding more festivals. There will be just a single Wanderlust again in 2010.
It needs to be relatively small to make it a good experience for the festival-goers, he said after last year's festival. Wanderlust would lose its charm if 20,000 attended. The first event revealed things that need “tweaking,” he said.
Artists at the first festival included Common, Jenny Lewis, Spoon, Girl Talk and Midnight Twister. The stage was atop Gold Coast, which was accessed by a funital lift.
Headliner Michael Franti ruptured his appendix the day before he was scheduled to perform. Hip-hop performer Common stepped in on late notice.
Expanded yoga offerings, more great music, a complement of organic foods and biodynamic wines, have been added for the second Wanderlust, according to a press statement
Wanderlust showcases a range of teachers, classes and styles that will inspire and challenge all practitioners, from the curious beginner to longtime students.
Wanderlust is produced by Velour Music Group, in conjunction with C3 Presents, which also produces Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival, and Starr Hill Presents, which puts on Bonnaroo, Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.
