Supervisors vote to keep libraries public
At their Board meeting today, the Nevada County Supervisors voted 5-0 against contracting with LSSI, a for-profit company based in Maryland, to manage Nevada County's public libraries. In response to a huge outcry from county residents, the Supervisors voted to implement Option A, a management proposal put together by the Friends of the Truckee Library with the help of library and county staff, which keeps libraries under county control and maintains staff and services.
2010 Census jobs available

Tahoe Truckee Flyfishers meet
In 1984, a local group of avid flyfishermen dedicated to the enjoyment, preservation, fellowship and learning about the sport founded the Tahoe Truckee Flyfishers (TTFF). Since its inception, the club has drawn a diverse, skilled and active membership — including some of the preeminent individuals involved in promoting and developing the sport. The club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Squaw Valley Public Service Building (adjacent to the Fire Department) at 6:30 p.m. with guest speakers, fellowship, fly tying and a raffle for fishing gear. Lahontan Community Foundation grants available
Have a great program or project that needs funding? Consider applying to the Lahontan Community Foundation. There are four primary areas of interest: Arts, culture and public benefit; education and youth development; environment, recreation and animal welfare and health and human services. Projects that serve the Tahoe Truckee area, including Incline Village, are eligible for funding. Grants are typically in the range of $5,000 to $8,000. California Democratic Club
Tahoe Truckee California Democratic Club to hold potluck and meeting, Sierra Village Apartment Clubhouse, 10081 Jeffrey Pine Road, Truckee, Feb. 25, 6 p.m. The evening's program will show the documentary “American Casino,” a compelling story of how the sub-prime mortgage crisis has affected the lives of individual Americans and neighborhoods. ‘Speaking in Tongues'
Free presentation of the award winning documentary, “Speaking in Tongues” about four students in dual immersion language programs in the San Francisco Unified School District. Northstar-at-Tahoe's Intro to Biathlon
Learn the winter sport of biathlon – cross-country skiing or snowshoeing and target shooting! Purim Festival in Tahoe Vista
Please join North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation at the upcoming Purim Festival, Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Temple, North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation, 7000 Latone Blvd., Tahoe Vista.
