TRUCKEE — The Excellence in Education Foundation recently voted to award the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District a grant for $59,000 to be used to complete Tier 1 of the district's newly implemented technology plan.
Earlier this year, the school district approved a technology plan, which seeks to standardize the technology equipment in all classrooms across the district. The first phase, or “Tier 1,” of the technology plan is $319,000 and is funded mainly by $260,000 from the district's Measure A budget. Measure A is a parcel tax adopted in 2000 that supports arts, technology and other programs. The $59,000 grant from Excellence in Education fills the gap between the Measure A funding and the district's plan.
“We have been working closely with the technology committee and the Foundation is incredibly impressed with the comprehensive and detailed plan the school district presented,” explained Ann Holmes Delforge, Excellence in Education's allocations chair.
Tier 1 of the district plan ensures a laptop computer, projector, sound system and wireless pointer for each classroom as well as a pilot program using Netbooks at Sierra High School.
