TRUCKEE, Calif. — Local Truckee resident, Larry Rose, recently showcased his green building efforts and won third place in Cali Bamboo's National “Project of the Month” contest.
Rose creatively used bamboo, one of the world's most durable, sustainable and renewable materials, to build an eco-friendly kitchen with carbonized horizontal bamboo plywood kitchen cabinets and fossilized natural bamboo flooring.
“It was purely democratic! More than 3,000 customers and website visitors voted in our June contest and we applaud Larry for implementing stylish architectural and interior designs in his kitchen without impacting the environment,” said Tanner Haidwood, vice president of Cali Bamboo.
Cali Bamboo hosts a contest each month that features 12 projects on its website and encourages individuals to vote for their favorite. The contest began June 1 and voting concluded June 14. Rose won a $100 Cali Bamboo gift certificate for taking third place in the national contest. In addition, Rose has implemented bamboo in his bathroom, media room and office.
