Martis Creek Lake campfire programs
The Martis Creek Campground Amphitheater, take Highway 267, two miles south of Truckee and turn left at Martis Creek Lake, follow signs to campground. Park just past campground entrance in parking area on left. Amphitheater is in the center of the campground; enter just past site #8. Sept. 4: BATS! A new and different bat program this year with bat biologists. See how bats are caught, counted, measured, studied and released. Meet at amphitheater at 7 p.m. Call 587-8113.
Women's Estate Planning Beyond Basics

Free Hunter Education Class
Free 10 hour, three-day Hunter Education Program Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 2, 6-9:30 p.m. to produce safe, responsible, knowledgeable and involved hunters who understand the importance of complying with hunting laws and behaving ethically. Pre-signup by calling 587-4844, ask for Patti, Tom or Doug as class size is limited. Under 12 advised to attend with parent. The certificate of completion is required by most states to obtain a hunting license. Must attend all three nights. Call 587-4844 for information.

The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society is hosting a Labor Day dinner cruise on the Tahoe Gal. This is a great way to relax with friends new and long-term after a busy summer. Cruise includes beautiful views, dinner, coffee and dessert. Cruise boarding is at 5:30 p.m. and departs at 6 p.m. from the Tahoe Gal pier by the Post Office in Tahoe City. Tickets are not mailed for the event. Our greeter will have a guest list at the dock. Cost: $60 for members, $65 non-members. Call the Gatekeeper's Museum for information at 583-1762.

Nevada County will be hold two public countywide tourism workshops, Wednesday, Sept. 1. The first workshop will be at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Grass Valley Gold Miners Inn, Grass Valley, 9 - 11 a.m., and the second will be at the Tahoe Truckee Hampton Inn & Suites, Truckee, 3 - 5 p.m. These workshops are meant to solicit information and feedback from key stakeholders, community members and tourism industry professionals on current tourism efforts to provide marketing ideas and input. They will mark the start to the Nevada County's tourism marketing efforts for the next year, to build infrastructure to further promote tourism in Nevada County. The League to Save Lake Tahoe is sponsoring the 13th annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day and is looking for volunteers Saturday, Sept. 11 at North Tahoe Regional Park. The event will combine field education in forest ecology, defensible space, BMP's, wildlife biology and natural history with hands-on forest restoration projects. Following the day's rewarding restoration work will be a volunteer appreciation lunch with guest speaker. Also looking for qualified team leaders to work with teams of 10-15 volunteers. If you enjoy working with people, have field experience in a natural resource discipline and believe in the value of community involvement with public lands, please consider being a team leader for this year's Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day. Experts & Insights: A Mythical Guide to GriefWork
Repeat presentation, Sierra College, Truckee Campus, Saturday, Sept. 11, 7:30 p.m. Dr. Bateman will explore the richly complex world of bereavement as expressed in worldwide folk tales to map out some of the “steps” in this sad, but universal song. Dr. Bateman teaches Death and Dying, conducts workshops on GriefWork, and has written a manuscript entitled “A Mythological Guide to GriefWork.” Join us for an intense but meaningful journey into cross-cultural understandings of loss.
