Holiday mixer
Truckee Donner and North Lake Tahoe Chambers of Commerce will host the Holiday Showcase mixer Wednesday, Sept. 8, 5 - 7 p.m. at the Resort at Squaw Creek. Great people, great raffle prizes, holiday ideas and networking opportunities.
Geographic information systems presentation
Experienced professional Jon Walker will teach “Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS).” GIS mapping software is used to manage, analyze and display spatial information across many industries. The emphasis during this two-day class is on using GIS software for practical applications in natural resource management, disaster mapping, cartographic design, urban planning and business settings. In this Sierra College course, learn or refine your skills in regard to creating reports and map layouts, query geographic databases and solve spatial problems, Friday, Sept. 10 and 24, 8 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. at the Tahoe-Truckee Campus, 11001 College Trail in Truckee. New infant and toddler classes
at InnerRhythms Training Centre
Starting this September InnerRhythms will offer My Gym Mobile Parent and Toddler classes to children ages 6 weeks to 3 years. The 45-minute classes use safe age-appropriate exercises — singing, dancing, games, manipulative skills, balancing, basic tumbling, and agility building activities. The infant class will include conversations about child development and provide practical information to continue these activities at home. This will start your child down a path enjoying movement and being proud of their skills. Tuesdays: Waddlers (14-22 months) 9:15 a.m.; Gymsters (23 months-2 1⁄2 years) 10:15 a.m.; Little Bundles (6 weeks-6 months) and Tiny Tykes (7-13 months) 11:15 a.m. Thursday: RhythmTots (ages 2 1⁄2 -3 1⁄4 years). Youth chorus group forming
Middle and high school children who love to sing, check out the new class beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14, 7:15 - 8:45 p.m. for 12 weeks ending in a Holiday concert. Sponsored by the Truckee Donner Parks and Recreation department. Director will be Susan Horst and accompanied by Sandie Davis from the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus. Members of TTCC support music and education in the schools and the community. Also looking for new members for rehearsals, starting Monday nights at 5:45 p.m. at the Sierra College music room #231. Performing two holiday concerts at the Resort at Squaw Creek, Dec. 11 and 12. Also performing with Toccata Dec. 15.
Parent's Night Out
Parents' Night Out will be held First Fridays, 6 - 10 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Tahoe City, 390 Fairway Drive, each month during the school year. Children ages birth-12 years of age are welcome. A donation of $10 per child per evening is requested. Activities include: Bible story, craft, music, and a movie. Please feed your children dinner before bringing them. This is a drop in program and no pre-registration is necessary. For more information call the church at 583-1534.

S.S. Tahoe Model display and lecture
Tahoe Maritime Museum, 5205 West Lake Blvd., Homewood, Sept. 14, 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Join us at the Tahoe Maritime Museum as Alan J. Zulberti speaks about his three-year project in building an operational model of the SS Tahoe. Nearly 115 years after the original ship was launched at Glenbrook in 1896, this model is unusual as it is entirely hand-built, has a riveted copper hull and is powered by the only known twin engine steam plant. Six feet long and radio controlled, the ship provides the sounds of an actual steam whistle, a ship's bell and steam cuffing. The model is had a trial run at a scale speed of 36.9 knots. Alan is an active member of the San Francisco Model Yacht Club. The working model will be on hand during the slide show presentation. Admission is $5 for adults and includes Museum admission.
