TRUCKEE, Calif. — Interstate 80 has been re-opened after it was shut down Tuesday morning between between Nyack, Calif., and the California/Nevada state line due to the season's first major storm, which brought close to two feet of snow at higher-elevation areas over the evening.
According to www.noaa.gov,there will be frequent and very heavy snow changing to widely scattered very light snow throughout the morning. According to Caltrans and the Nevada Department of Transportation, I-80 will reopen when the road is safe for travelers.
The Monday/Tuesday storm comes after a weekend that saw anywhere from 4 to 6 feet fall in and around the Tahoe/Truckee region.
Chain controls are required along I-80, as well as along all major highways in the region. The road at Emerald Bay also is closed this morning.
