TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Do you want to share your love of running with other members of the community? Do you want to be a positive role model for our youth? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of local girls?
Volunteering as a Running Buddy is a fun and rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run. This is a perfect opportunity for women and men who cannot make the weekly time commitment to be a coach. Running Buddies are volunteers who attend two designated lessons during the 10-week season and the 5K fun run Oct. 30. Meet after school at several Truckee, Kings Beach, and Incline Village, Nev. locations. Running Buddies are invited to attend more lessons but are not responsible for facilitating the Girls on the Run curriculum.
Running Buddies agree to attend at least two program sessions, participate in the 5K Run Oct. 30 with your running buddy, serve as a role model for program participants, participate in games and workouts with the girls as needed by the coaches and support the mission of Girls on the Run.
Running Buddies must be at least 16 years of age and have a strong commitment to girls' positive development and experience working with youth a plus. Men and women are welcome to apply.
Running Buddy Orientation is Monday, Sept. 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Avec Food and Wine, Truckee. Visit www.avecfoodandwine.com
To volunteer, complete an online volunteer application at www.girlsontherunsierras.org/volunteer or contact Dana Tanner, Girls on the Run — Sierras Volunteer Coordinator at 530-567-2015 or dana.tanner@girlsontherun.org.
