OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. — More than 16,000 Tough Mudders compete Saturday and Sunday at Squaw Valley USA.
Athletes will be tested with an extreme on-mountain obstacle course on Squaw Valley USA's legendary terrain for the largest Tough Mudder in the history of the growing event series. Chosen for its challenging landscape, Squaw Valley boasts 4,000 acres and 2,850 vertical feet, the majority of which will be incorporated into the unrivaled Tough Mudder obstacle course.
Tough Mudder is designed by British Special Forces to be the ultimate test of strength, grit, stamina, and camaraderie.
NorCal Mudders will scale the Sierra on the 11 mile-long course complete featuring 24 different obstacles. From a run through a gauntlet of 4-foot-high flames called “Fire Walker,” to crowd-favorite “Electroshock Therapy,” where participants dash through a field of live wires with up to 10,000 volt shocks, the challenge does not get much tougher than this.
The military-style obstacles are strategically placed across Squaw Valley's peaks, with many challenges visible from High Camp, Squaw Valley's mountaintop complex complete with restaurants, bars, paintball course, roller rink, pool and hot tub.
Spectators can ride the resort's scenic Cable Car to get a front row seat of the Tough Mudder action as well as breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Cable Car tickets are available at the base of the mountain and cost $29 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.
Following the event on Saturday, a free concert by Lovefool, a '90s tribute band, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Village Events Plaza.
