Free Application for Federal Student Aid guidance
Sierra College's Financial Aid Office will offer parents and new and returning college students individual guidance on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Feb. 10, 1-3 p.m. in room 228. Representatives will be on site to answer questions and guide you through the online FAFSA. To make the most of the session arrive prepared: Bring 2011 tax returns, parent and student birth dates and California driver's license numbers, proof of TANF or SSI. You or your child do not have to be attending Sierra College to take advantage of this free community offering. Sierra College is located at 11001 College Trail in Truckee. RSVP is required (space is limited) at 530-550-2225.

Rideout Ski Skate Adventure Camp
Ski/Skate Week is right around the corner. Take advantage of this week-long program while your children are out of school. Daily trips, games, crafts, and more are all part of this week of fun and excitement. Ski/Skate week is Feb. 21-24, 2012. Full session fees are $115 and $135 for non-district residents. Drop-in registrations will be taken based on availability beginning Feb. 13. For more information on upcoming programs and events or to register contact the Recreation Office at 530-583-3440. This is Truckee! exhibit to open
The Truckee Public Art Commission is pleased to announce the opening of This is Truckee!, a juried photography exhibit at the TDRPD Community Recreation Center.

Third annual father/daughter dance
Get ready to dance the night away with your little girl at the Third Annual Father Daughter Dance Friday, Feb. 10, 6-9 p.m. at Tahoe Biltmore Hotel in Crystal Bay, Nev. Enjoy dancing to DJ music, creative stations; have a photo taken in the photo booth and make memories to last a lifetime.
Your daughter won't remember the time you spent reviewing test questions … what she will remember is that time when you dressed up, shared a special meal and then danced the night away to her favorite songs. You will keep that souvenir photo in your wallet until it all but wears out.

Jazz Band 40s Night announced
Experience the swing and rhythm of the 1940s on Friday, Feb. 10, 7-9:30 p.m. when the acclaimed North Tahoe High School Jazz Band takes to Tahoe City's Granlibakken ballroom stage.
This homage to “the greatest generation” is also a key fundraiser for the NTHS Jazz Band's goodwill tour in March. Under the direction of talented bandleader and principal jokester Dean Nordby, this energetic student group plans to perform at a variety of schools, hospitals and senior centers in San Diego.
Attendees are encouraged to don 1940s garb or at the very least bring a swingin' attitude. Tickets are $20 per person and include hearty appetizers, silent auction and a no host bar. Buy tickets from any NTHS Jazz Band member or at the door. For more information call 530-581-1669.
Soup & Chili Showdown 2012
Cold temperatures and early sunsets means its time for a warm evening along side friends, neighbors, and the Tahoe City Recreation Department. Join them for an evening of tasty soups, delicious chilis, and full stomachs!
The “Soup and Chili Showdown” is going into its third year at the Rideout Community Center in Tahoe City and will take place Saturday, Feb. 25, 6-8:30 p.m. The Tahoe City Recreation Department invites all amateur and professional cooks to show off their culinary talent in this year's event which will feature a variety of different categories in both the soup and chili division. Entry into the friendly competition is free but pre-registration is required.

Wildlife in Wild Places
A Call to Artists for the month of March at North Tahoe Arts. This is an all medium encouraged exhibit with an all animal theme. The exhibit applicants will be juried in; please send three images of your work on a CD or e-mail to info@northtahoearts.com. Please label your CD with your name and a self-stamped enveloped for its return. A non-refundable application fee of $20 is required for processing. Opening reception is Friday, March 3. Deadline for applications is Feb. 17, 2012. Please call North Tahoe Arts at 530-581-2787 for details.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe are seeking volunteers to mentor local youths. The commitment is generally one hour a week for a year, you set the time and place. Make a lifelong impact on a child's life while doing all the fun activities you love. The waitlist for boys to get a mentor in Truckee has many children and the waitlist for the girls in North Tahoe does also.
