Tahoe orchestra ‘Going for Baroque’ with summer series

Toccata, the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, will kick off its 10th Summer MusicFest next week with the “Going For Baroque – Summer Solstice Serenade” concert series.

The program will open with Vivaldi’s Concerto for Violin and Cello, RV 547, with Natalie Haines Backman and Nick Haines as soloists, and will continue with flutist Josue Casillas performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for Flute No. 428, “Goldfinch.”

Other soloists include: Yuri Liberzon, guitarist, performing Vivaldi’s Concerto RV 82, and harpist Marina Roznitovsky performing Vivaldi’s Concerto No. 540.



The concert will conclude with Bach’s Cantata BWV 9 Es ist das Heil, featuring Anna Helwing, soprano, and Stuart Duke, baritone.

Toccata Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances, dhceudled for the following times and locations:



7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 South, Carson City.

7 p.m. Friday, June 19, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 341 Village Blvd., Incline Village.

3 p.m. Sunday, June 21, St. Theresa Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe.

7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 California Ave., Reno.

General admission is $25 for adults and $20 for seniors. Preferred seating is $35 and $15 for youth/students. Tickets are available at the door or online at ToccataTahoe.com.

Two fundraisers will also take place in conjunction with this concert series. The first will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at a private home at Cave Rock. The second will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at a private home in Reno.

Flutist Josue Casillas, guitarist Yuri Liberzon, and several of Toccata’s top vocal soloists and singers from its recent tour to Italy will provide entertainment. A tax deductible donation of $100 per person is requested. For reservations, call 787-602-2121.
