TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Local trail and ultra-runner Dan Jenkins will be run 14 laps around Donner Lake (100 miles) on June 4 to benefit Girls on the Run-Sierras. “Growing up, we had a running program in elementary school that allowed us to run laps at recess and keep track of our progress. I developed a lot of self-confidence and good habits through that program and it served me well in later years; not only being able to run in college, but also when I got off track as an adult and addiction entered the picture. I took running back into my life and there was a polar shift for the good. I owe my life to running and those who have supported me.”

In 2011, Jenkins ran two laps around Lake Tahoe to raise money and awareness for local addiction services. “GOTR-S reminds me of the opportunity I was given growing up, but even better. These girls build self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring opportunities, and I love that it creatively integrates running to help mold healthy, confident young kids and adults. In short, GOTR hits home for me. It’s an amazing program that does great work.”

Jenkins’ fundraising goal is $2,000. He welcomes local runners, friends and family to run some miles with him on June 4! Jenkins added, “Just come on out and jump in with a lap or two and have some fun.”
