Affordable Care Act presentation
Wednesday, Oct. 2, 6-8 p.m., at the Incline Village Library, 845 Alder Ave., Incline Village. Educators with Community Health Alliance will present information and answer questions about the Affordable Care Act. Topics covered will include: What is health insurance; why do you need it?; Nevada Health Link plans; costs and eligibility; levels of coverage; and your questions answered. The Community Health Alliance works with the Great Basin Primary Care Association which is one of the Navigator organizations awarded grants by the state to do outreach and enrolment for Nevada Health Link. Throughout the month of October, Tahoe Forest Hospital will offer a free gift for anyone getting a first-time mammogram. TFH also will hold a drawing for a free mammogram. If you refer a friend who is a first-timer, you both get a free gift. Funding is available for a limited number of screening through a special grant made available by the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation. Briner Imaging at Tahoe Forest Hospital offers the very latest in digital mammography. Screening exams are quick, easy and read by our board certified radiologists. SnowFest! Scarecrow Sprint and Stroll
The popular SnowFest! Scarecrow Sprint and Stroll, a fundraiser for the 10-day winter carnival, will return to the Commons Beach on Saturday, Oct. 5 beginning at 11 a.m. This is a Fun Run for all ages with four different races. Small children will be able to participate with a run around the Commons playground. Youths will run from Commons Beach to Christy Hill and back, or can participate with the adults in a 5k or 10k run on the Tahoe City Trail. SnowFest! encourages runners to get their Halloween spirit on. Awards will be presented to race winners in each category and for the best costumes. SnowFest! will host a Pumpkin Patch, sponsored by Save Mart, as well. Libertarian Party Dinner, Cannabis Initiative

Nevada County flu shots
Nevada County Public Health Department will offer flu shots for a cost of $15 in Truckee. Children, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5, 1-4 p.m. at the Nevada County Joseph Center, Donner Room, 10075 Levon Ave., Truckee. Adults starting Oct. 9, every Wednesday by appointment only, 10 a.m.-noon.
