STATELINE, Nev. — This weekend’s Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival will be better than ever for its fourth year at Lake Tahoe’s South Shore. We’ve got everything you need to know about one of the most popular music events of the summer.

EVENT DETAILS

The one-day event kicks off at 4 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 20, in the Hard Rock amphitheater and will be jamming until 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $55 presale and $70 at the door.

If you’re feeling like a baller these days, then it might be wise to indulge on VIP tickets, which offer access to a lounge area, a private bar, private bathrooms, early entry and, best of all, special main-stage viewing.

Irie (adj) the word in Jamaican Patois that means, “alright.” Used to describe being at total peace with your current state of being.E.g., Hey, man, I’m excited for the irie vibes at this weekend’s Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival. How about you?

VIP tickets are $100 and VIP parking is $40. The show is all ages, so feel free to bring the kiddos and even grandma if she’s feeling irie.

WHO WILL BE THERE?

This weekend’s lineup is a craftily selected blend of both well-known artists and rising talent.

As far as big names go, everybody knows Pepper, the popular Hawaii-bred three-piece rock/reggae group. If the band name doesn’t ring a bell, then maybe their chart-topping hit “Give It Up” might.

A few other names you might recognize include Ky-Mani Marley, Isreal Vibration, Mike Love and Don Carlos. But why stop there? Music lovers know one of the best things about festivals is discovering up-and-coming artists before they’ve blown up on the scene.

There will also be guest DJs worth your eardrums’ attention, including DJ Dinga and DJ Rasta. Excited yet? You should be.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This weekend’s reggae fest will be introducing a 10,000-square-foot manicured lawn decorated with beautiful shade structures to ensure you stay cool, comfortable and irie throughout the day.

These new festival features are in response to last year’s attendee suggestions. You asked, and they answered! Be sure to bring a blanket in order to take full advantage of these new amenities.

There’s also a solid chance you’ll be in the company of 7,499 other bobbing heads as Hard Rock’s amphitheater is expected to reach max capacity once again this year. Apropos for music festival culture, there will be a vendor village offering an array of food options to take care of those inevitable munchies.

WHO SHOULD GO

Attending a music festival is one of those things everyone must do at some point in their life. If you know the lyrics to every Bob Marley song and songs of his offspring, then you won’t want to miss out on this festival.

If you have no idea what reggae music is, then this is a perfect opportunity to dive in and explore a genre of music that has had a profound impact on modern culture.

HOW TO PREPARE

Weather will be sunny with a expected high of 84 degrees, so slap on some sunscreen as you can expect to receive a good dose of vitamin D. Bring a blanket if you want to take full advantage of the lawn and the starry night sky after sundown.

If you’re expecting to eat, drink and be irie, it’s best to carry cash in order to speed up the purchasing process. Finally, it’s worth brushing up on your music knowledge. Google the artists you aren’t familiar with and get familiar with some of their hits.

Ky-Mani Marley’s music videos might be a good place to start. His videos are well-edited and will definitely get you primed for a full day of reggae.
