TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — North Tahoe Arts (NTA) joins the 2013 Truckee Tahoe AirFair & Family Festival pre-event Honorary Dinner to host this year’s silent auction to be held Friday, July 5, in Hangar One at Truckee Tahoe Airport.

World War II veteran, Triple Ace fighter pilot and published author Clarence “Bud” Anderson will be the honored guest and featured speaker. Tickets are on sale at the Truckee Tahoe Airport or online at http://www.truckeetahoeairfair.com.

Evening highlights will include world-renowned aerobatic pilot, 28 year-old Melissa Pemberton and her husband Rex Pemberton, the wing suit flyer, along with stunt pilot Rich Perkins and the evening’s honorary guest Bud Anderson. A History Channel clip of a 22-year-old Bud Anderson in action during WW II will be shown, with Congressman Tom McClintock delivering a welcome address to Anderson.

An extensive silent auction will be held with all proceeds going to Truckee/North Tahoe youth programs, scholarships and organizations.

“We are thrilled to be involved with this event and to showcase some really unique items, like a hand-painted leather jacket and other locally handcrafted items created specifically for this event,” said Kellie Cutler, executive director, North Tahoe Arts. “Sometimes the best partnerships are unexpected and with organizations that we are not doing business with regularly.”

Silent auction items will range from art services to travel and adventure, sports and recreation and aviation. “We have secured some really compelling items such as a once-in-a-lifetime plane ride, an interactive art project with local muralist, Sara Smith, a Palm Springs get away package and rafting company trips,” added Cutler.

The interactive art project will be facilitated by Smith. “Every mural project becomes a unique experience, both personal and evolving. While creating the recent murals at Truckee Elementary School, I felt that the energy of collaboratively working with students brought about a personal epiphany,” she said. “It clarified how creative expression engages everyone and is truly vital.”

Smith will invite event attendees to participate in a large canvas painting that will then be auctioned that night.

The following nonprofits and their volunteers are working to make this the best silent auction in Truckee/North Tahoe: North Tahoe Arts, Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1073, KidZone Museum and Truckee Optimist Club. These organizations provide a variety of local youth programs, projects and scholarships. “In particular for NTA, we plan to use proceeds from the auction to support our visual arts programming for all ages in the community which includes our youth art programs Kids Art Saturday and Kids Art Camp,” said Cutler.

North Tahoe Arts, located in Tahoe City for more than 25 years, has supported the arts with various events, such as the July ARTour, Kids Art Camp and numerous art openings at the North Tahoe Arts galleries.

“This silent auction will showcase what we are all about and give attendees a glimpse at where we are headed as a premier arts center in the community with relevant visual arts programming for all ages,” said Cutler.
