Trails & Vistas seeks volunteers for Sept. 19 event

Trails & Vistas is looking for volunteers for its Art Hike on Sept. 19 at Donner Summit. Volunteers can act as a trail leader, caboose, or base camp helper.

Volunteers are invited to an after party on the deck of Donner Ski Ranch with live music by Ian Ethan.

The theme of this year’s hikes, “Finding Beauty,” will inspire attendees along a guided path past live music, art, storytelling, and dance performances. The two hikes will each feature 10 installations spread along an approximately three-mile route.

Family Farm Festival set for Sept. 26 at KidZone Museum

Suddenlink, in partnership with KidZone Museum, Sierra College, Piping Rock Equestrian Center and Villager Nursery, will host a fun-filled, family-friendly event Saturday, Sept. 26, at KidZone Museum, 11711 Donner Pass Road in Truckee, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Suddenlink Family Farm Festival will feature animal education and pony rides with Piping Rock Equestrian; herb planting with Villager Nursery; a variety of arts and crafts activities; and from 10:30 to 11, a science experiment presentation by Derek Larson from Sierra College.

Annual Excellence In Education recognition event set for Oct. 1

Come out and cheer on an amazing group of community members, educators and school staff who are making a powerful and meaningful impact on the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District when the Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation hosts its annual recognition event on Thursday, October 1 from 5-7:30 p.m. at PlumpJack in Squaw Valley.

The event is a celebration of the Foundation’s generous donors, exceptional educators and acknowledges another year of successful partnerships. The event honors Foundation donors and the Linda Brown Fellows and Star Award recipients.

The Linda Brown Fellows Awards recognize district teachers, who go above and beyond in fulfilling their potential as an educator, show exceptional merit or talent and provide truly outstanding academic programs. The Star Awards recognize classified employees, who also go above and beyond in fulfilling their positions, make a positive difference and provide truly outstanding support.

Attendees to this year’s event will be treated to a performance by the North Tahoe High School jazz ensemble, as well as appetizers, a no-host bar and school grant recipient displays.

Chocolate & Wine fest tickets now on sale for event at Hyatt

Tahoe SAFE Alliance announced last week that tickets are on sale for the 27th Annual Tahoe Chocolate & Wine Festival, featuring the theme “Life is a Caber{n}et.” The event will take place Nov. 7, from 6-10 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Grand Ballroom in Incline Village.

This event also commemorates the 30 years Tahoe SAFE Alliance has been dedicated to end abuse and the nearly 20,000 community members served. Tickets are $125 in advance and $150 at the door. Tickets are sold through http://www.tahoechocolatefestival.org.

Guests will be transported to a vintage Cabaret setting while enjoying a festive evening complete with gourmet chocolate creations by local chefs including Hyatt Regency, Jake’s on the Lake, Mr. Z’s, Northstar, North Tahoe Catering, Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe, and more. They will sample boutique wine, dine on scrumptious appetizers, bid on unique items in a live auction and enjoy an exclusive raffle.

This is the largest annual fundraiser for Tahoe SAFE Alliance and money raised will support vital programs and services including the Mt. Rose Safe House, the community Helpline, victim support services, legal advocacy, a comprehensive Children’s Program, and violence prevention education to school children, businesses, and community members.

Tickets on sale for annual Truckee wine walk

The 12th annual Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop is slated for Saturday, Oct. 3, from noon to 4 p.m.

The event brings crowds of locals and visitors to enjoy gourmet food and wine while wandering through the boutique downtown shops.

For $40 ($45 day of) per ticket, attendees receive a commemorative wine glass, an event program and map to participating venues, and five tickets for food tastings (additional food tickets may be purchased for $2 per ticket).

Dining for Schools cards now on sale

Dine for 50 percent off at 45 North Tahoe and Truckee restaurants and help raise money to support Tahoe-Truckee schools when you purchase a Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation Dining for Schools Card for $50.

The card is non-transferable but may be used an unlimited number of times at any participating restaurant during the valid period.

Cards are valid Sunday through Thursday only, (holidays excluded) Sunday, Sept. 13, through Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015; and Sunday, April 17, through Thursday, June 16, 2016.

Several restaurants offer an extended period from Sunday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, April 7, 2016.
