Dragonfly Restaurant and Sushi Bar announced a new addition to their culinary family: general manager Timothy Kuss. Hailing from Ohio, where he received his bachelor’s from Wittenberg University, Kuss has lived all over the country working in restaurants and resorts from Colorado to Florida, Montana and Washington before establishing himself in the Lake Tahoe area, where he most recently worked for the Ritz-Carlton as food and beverage manager.

A passion for fishing and other outdoor interests such as snowboarding and dirt-biking go hand in hand with his 12 years of fine restaurant and bar management experience in seasonal resort environments. It was his appreciation of small town mountain communities coupled with a taste for eclectic food and drink that brought him to Dragonfly as the new manager. “I love it here and hope to make Tahoe my long-term home. I came to Dragonfly because of Billy [McCullough]. Not only do I admire his food and culinary vision, but his passion for this community made me want to be a part of his team,” said Kuss. His one-on-one sommelier training and experience with technical software systems enhances his industry knowledge.

Lahontan 2014 Grant Cycle open

The Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation in conjunction with the Lahontan Community Foundation (LCF) announced the opening of the Lahontan 2014 Grant Cycle. This year, LCF has approximately $85,000 available to award to organizations in the fields of health and human services, environment, education and arts and culture. High Fives for Health Care

Richard Votaw Insurance Agency of Tahoe City and High Fives Foundation have teamed up to create an awareness campaign highlighting the perils of not having health insurance. Covered California encourages customers to sign-up for health insurance through an insurance broker, to counsel which plan will best suite a person or family’s needs. For every person or family who signs-up for health insurance through Richard Votaw Insurance Agency, $10 will be donated to High Fives Foundation. Flare Chef: A practitioner of the culinary entertainment who delights and entertains guests through the manipulation of food and utensils. Flare Chef is culinary entertainment, think of teppanyaki to go. Principal and culinary entertainment master Nate Alder began as exhibition chef in 1999 in Phoenix, Ariz. In 2006 he founded Flare Chef Las Vegas. For two years he merged the city’s insatiable craving for entertainment and dining into one creative sphere.

When the economic collapse of 2008 roared through Las Vegas, Alder shifted focus and became a seasonal chef in Montana and Lake Tahoe. In the spring of 2013, with a positive economic forecast and new business location selected, Alder relaunched Flare Chef. Alder selected Lake Tahoe and all of Northern Nevada and California because the niche market of culinary entertainment is ripe for exploration and underdeveloped.
