‘Unnatural Acts In And Near The Sierra Nevada’

The Rotary Club of Tahoe City will host a talk by UC Berkeley professor, Lynn Huntsinger, on “Unnatural Acts in the Sierra Nevada: fighting fires, gathering wild horses, and watering rare birds by accident,” at Jake’s on the Lake, in the Boatworks Mall, Tahoe City on Aug. 20. No host wine bar at 5:30 p.m., $20 dinner at 6 p.m. with program to follow. The talk asks the question: Is our love for nature perverse? Forest fires, wild horses, and secretive birds called black rails illustrate the complexities, unintended consequences, and future opportunities of recognizing the partnership of people and nature. The way people have shared nature is the problem … and can be the answer. Call 530-525-7579.

Latest in Autism Research

Thursday, Aug. 22. No-host bar opens 5:30 p.m. Presentation begins 6 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, 291 Country Club Drive, Incline Village. Cost: $5 donation suggested.

Join Dr. Sally Rogers, UC Davis MIND Institute, for a presentation on the latest findings on effects of intervention on the youngest children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This lecture will discuss the need for intervention models for younger and younger children being identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the effects of interventions that focus on this age group. The number of children who develop autism now overshadows all other early childhood disabilities and represents more than 1 percent of all the children in the United States. Supporting and improving the outcomes of young children with autism and other disabilities is a national commitment and health priority, and a community and family necessity.

Rogers specializes in conducting developmental research into autism and other developmental disorders and working with children with developmental disabilities and their families, especially young children with autism. Contact Heather Segale, education and outreach director at 775-881-7562 or hmsegale@ucdavis.edu. Additional details are available at http://terc.ucdavis.edu/calendar/.
