First Friday at Riverside
Riverside Studios will host an art opening to welcome a new member/partner. Patrick Blide sees a rancher's rusted pile of twisted metal, old machinery parts and forgotten tools as a treasure trove. Patrick transforms the static into whimsical characters via hammer, anvil and flame. All are invited to the opening exhibition, Oct. 4, 4-8 p.m. at Riverside Studios, 10060 Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee. Visit http://www.riversideartstudios.com or call 530-587-3789.
Donner Party Hike
Oct. 5-6. Explore the region on interpretive walks and hikes. Imagine the clip-clop of oxen and the rumble of wagon wheels, as countless emigrants scaled the mighty Sierra Nevada in search of a better life. Learn about the success of the Stephens Party; the tragic Donner Party; and the importance of the transcontinental railroad. Put on your hiking boots and explore Truckee's history.
