CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. — Bass Heavy Collective will host the “Hood Friday Purple Party” on Friday, March 29, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Tahoe Biltmore on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore.

The evening will feature Buku (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Guttstar (Portland, Ore.) alongside local up-and-comers Rundown, ZEBUEL and Gurbtron. Also on board will be Soulstice Sound, Illuminator Lights, Big Top Tahoe Performance Group, photography from Andrew Browning, video by Auxillary and live art by Tahoe artists Michael Heltebrake.

From the first glimpses of Robert Balotsky’s work as Buku, it was clear the Pittsburgh native and graduate of Music Technology was onto something. With an effortless grasp on sound design and music theory, the young producer combines deceptively simple and emotive melodies, laden with resounding bass drops and intricate drum patterns.

With a love of drums rooting from childhood, his work reflects the obsession — emitting percussive elements only a trained ear could produce.

Behind a kit since age 8, Buku followed the progression of handling duties for multiple bands throughout his adolescence. Once introduced to digital production, Buku took his techniques to stranger dimensions — he’s been pushing the boundaries ever since.

His early work has placed him at the forefront of a new wave of rising talent amongst East Coast producers. Garnering interest and plays from Starkey, Lunice, Paper Diamond, Shiftee, Clicks & Whistles, Kastle (to name a few) –the up-and-comer has been paving a promising road over the last year.

With his debut release, “Slippy,” under the Slit Jockey imprint and a remix of Starkey’s “Command” on Civil Music, Buku is poised to make much larger waves in the coming months: haters beware.

Guttstar (Güttstar) is by no means your traditional producer. Louie Armstrong once ushered the advice, “learn everything there is, then throw it all away and just play.” In an age when electronic music has shed the stylistic shackles of its youth and all cultures have been made mutually tangible, a sonic artist is emancipated to use all the world as his or her palette. Guttstar has done just that.

ZEBUEL — aka “Zeb Early” — is a Kings Beach-based musician/producer and member of the Bass Heavy Crew. When not on the road guitar slinging in various West Coast outfits, Zeb is in the studio crafting an 808-drenched hybrid of soul, reggae and hip-hop music.

As of late, he has shared the stage with the likes of Mimosa, Elliot Lipp, An-ten-nae, Thievery Corporation, J Boogie and the likes. His debut EP is set to launch on Avocaudio Records (SF) this spring.
