California Highway Patrol and Truckee SaveMart partner for community

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol, the community and SaveMart supermarkets in Truckee partnered again this year to bring big smiles during Halloween and are stocking the pantry for the upcoming holidays.

SaveMart donated a large amount of candy and treats that were handed out by the CHP officers and personnel of California Highway Patrol.

This is the second year SaveMart has been the sole donation source for the CHP and the annual candy giveaway/pedestrian safety booth in the Gateway Center at Halloween.

Along with Chipper the CHP Mascot was CHP Truckee Sgt. Randy Fisher, Officer Pete Mann, clerical personnel Melissa Martin and Sarah Martinson, as well as the CHP Truckee Senior Volunteer Squad of Jerry Blakely, Dick Grundy, Pat McDonough and Judy Feldhausen, who all kept the goodies flowing at the safe trick-or-treating event.

The CHP and the kids of Truckee thank Savemart for their continued support of Halloween fun in Truckee.

Swinging toward the holiday season, Officer Mann, Chipper and senior volunteer Clay Thomas collected 30 turkeys and more than $3,000 in groceries, “stuffing” a patrol car full of turkeys and all the fixings to benefit the less fortunate in the area over the holidays.

All food and donations will be given to a local charity.
