Big, big Bunco Bash
The Third Annual Bunco Bash was bigger and better this year!
The lively and boisterous ladies' event benefited the Gene Upshaw Cancer Center's "Wig" and "Fuel" programs. This year's donation will be close to $3000!
Kudos are in order for all the volunteers who donated their time, talents, wine and food. Our highly successful raffle was due to the generosity of the local businesses. Every year our businesses step forward and donate thousands of dollars worth of services, food and certificates.
In no particular order, thanks to The Cutting Company, The Auto and Tire Doctor, Safeway, Sports Tahoe, Jazzercise, Garwoods, Eagle Wine Winery, T&T Nails, Wanda's Flowers, TMA, NLTRA, Beachcomber Hair Salon, Morning Glory, Exotic Nails, Bobby Page Cleaners, Tahoe Pilates, Mane Attraction, Pure Skin Facials, Hemmings & Jarrett, Rosie's Cafe, Beach Comber Hair Studio, Smokey's Cafe, Truckee River Winery, Squeeze In, and Bank of America.

The Kings Beach Parents Co-op would like to thank everyone who helped make this year's Dads in Drag fundraiser our most successful yet!
On Feb 5 the daring dads and friends of the co-op got decked out in heels and gowns to raise money for KBPC. Donors and supporters enjoyed an evening of exciting fashion, delicious food, and the stimulating funk jazz music of The Truth Cartel. Our MC for the evening, Diego Galindo, helped keep the energy going all evening.
John Cheney and the wonderful staff at the Big Water Grille again provided us with a beautiful location and excellent food; while Alyssa Aninos, the team at Dress the Part(y) and Panache were generous with offering wardrobe and makeup assistance as well as silent auction items. Thanks are also extended to the other businesses and individuals for silent auction itesm. Though there are too many to list here, we are truly grateful for their support. We are also indebted to the members of the co-op who worked hard getting ready for the event and to the men who answered the call to participate. With the amazing support of so many in the community our fundraiser was a smashing success.

SOS sends thank you signals
SOS Outreach sends their gratitudes to everyone who attended or participated in the Aloha Tuesday raffle fundraisers at Jake's On The Lake on Feb. 5 and March 5.
Both nights were a great party filled with great food, drink, fire dancers, and lots of great people out to support a local nonprofit.
In total, SOS Outreach received more than $870 from raffle ticket sales and donations.
These funds will go directly to helping local Tahoe youth learn to ski or snowboard. SOS Outreach programs also encouraging character development, positive decision making, self-confidence, and social justice. Thank you to Jake's On The Lake staff and patrons, as well as industry sponsors Breeze Ski Shop and Mountain Hardware for all of your donations and hard work.

Congratulations, Forest Charter skiers!
If the mission of the new paradigm in education is to support the gifts, talents, and passions of our local students, it's apparent that Forest Charter School's Personalized Learning program is a match for the rigors of ski competitors. Most current are the accomplishments of Bryce Bennett who races for the U.S. Ski Team and is a graduate of Forest Charter School, along with Forrest Ferguson and Max Hall.
The question often arises: Is there a correlation between academic excellence and athletic achievement?
Take for example, McKenzy Golding, Forest Charter School's 2005 valedictorian.
McKenzy was on the U.S. Olympic Ski Team and went on to study at UCLA.
Eric Schlobohm, a 2007 FCS valedictorian, went off to Dartmouth on a ski scholarship. These successful Tahoe athletes all had several things in common: discipline, commitment, focus and passion. And these traits seemed to translate into their love of learning, especially when tailored to their interests and yes, academic requirements.
Skiers who are currently enrolled in Forest Charter School, a fully accredited and established charter school, and who show promise in both academic and athletic arenas are Lila Lapanja, Scotty Lebel, Addison Dvoracek and Garrett Driller.
Graduates Tenaya Driller, Gabbi Hall, and Allene Kennedy are doing well on their college teams.
As the co-founder and former director of Forest Charter School, it has been a joy to watch these students supported through a public education program.
Forest Charter's 10- year history in Truckee has certainly set a model for the needs of this community.
