Applications sought for 2016 North Tahoe-Truckee leadership program

Special to the Sun

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The North Lake Tahoe-Truckee Leadership Program is now accepting applications for the 2016 program.

This award winning program creates an opportunity for potential leaders to broaden their understanding of regional issues and opportunities, while developing and honing leadership skills.

Since 2004, the program has graduated more than 260 individuals. These alumni are now challenging themselves while serving their employers and our community in a variety of community-building efforts.

The workshops will again be led by Shannon Beets, Vice President/Provost at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village.

Each workshop is integrated with one-half of the time spent on regional issues such as education, transportation, planning for the future, and non-profit advocacy; and one-half on leadership skill development such as change management, team basics, and creative decision making.

The program begins in January and ends with a May graduation. It includes five sessions, with optional days where participants will be “out in the field” getting a close-up view of issues, how various agencies work, and the challenges facing our community.

“The quality of leadership in any community is not to be taken for granted. New leaders must be trained, educated and informed,” said Lynn Saunders, President/CEO of the Truckee Donner Chamber.

Businesses can support the program and show their commitment to the community by enrolling an employee to participate in the program.

“Businesses benefit by developing well rounded and newly energized employees and ensuring a continuity of leaders eager and able to improve and sustain our region,” said Sandy Evans-Hall, CEO/Executive Director of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association.

Businesses can also help support the program with a one day sponsorship for $500.

Information about the program, sponsorships, and applications can be found on TahoeTruckeeLeadership.com.

Interested employers and participants are invited to attend the 2016 Leadership Program Breakfast scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, at 8:30 a.m. at Rosie’s Café in Tahoe City.

Tuition fee for the Program is $750 for businesses and $500 for non-profit agencies. The fee covers all expenses of the program including meals and supplies.

Partial scholarships are available. Deadline for applications is Dec. 11 — space is limited, and the class is expected to once again fill to capacity.
