Help select Fourth of July Parade theme

Plans are underway for the Truckee Fourth of July Parade — a quintessential display of small-town Americana. The Parade is produced by the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the town of Truckee.

This year’s parade theme nominations will be accepted through May 9. Some previous themes include: “We Love Our Truckee,” “Gateway to California,” and “Treasure of the Sierra.”

“The theme shows what is important to the community, and is reflective of our community pride,” said Lynn Saunders, president/CEO of the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber is also seeking sponsorships to help offset parade costs. Sponsors receive recognition in all parade publicity, Chamber website, social media, newsletter, Truckee Weekly e-mail and from MC during the parade.

Submit your parade theme ideas to info@Truckee.com by May 9 or call 530-587-8808 for more information.

Space available in California Naturalist Courses

Time to take advantage of the early registration (May 15) discount for California Naturalist Training Courses at Sagehen Creek Field Station.

California Naturalist is a UC Extension certification program designed to enhance citizens’ knowledge about the state’s ecosystems, ecology, and natural processes as they pertain to water, forests, wildlife, plants, geology, energy, and global environmental issues. Participants learn to keep a field journal, practice interpretive skills, and are invited to become citizen scientists connected with organizations and agencies through volunteer activities and a Capstone Project of their own choosing.

Interactive presentations by experts provide basic information, up-to-date research and interesting anecdotes from experiences. Follow-up field excursions are conducted in the “classroom without walls” at the UC Berkeley Field Station, situated within a 9,000 acre Experimental Forest managed by the Tahoe National Forest.
