IVGID candidate interview process comes into focus

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The six candidates for IVGID general manager will be put through a lengthy public interview process early next month at The Chateau.
The all-day slate on Oct. 7 includes presentations and Q-and-A with the finalists — Keven Burnett, Tom Masterson, Richard Mears, Rosemary Menard, Eric Severance and Dan St. John — before three panels, which are:
• The Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees.
• IVGID’s senior management team.
• A group of regional peers.
IVGID’s management team includes Joe Pomroy, director of public works and soon-to-be interim general manager; Gerry Eick, director of finance; Dee Carey; director of human resources; Susan Herron; administrative assistant to the general manager and board clerk; Karla Harker, director of information technology; and Brad Wilson, Diamond Peak general manager.
As of midday Wednesday, the peer panel included Deborah Hackett, CFO of the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation; Fred Findlen, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe; and Lynn Gillette, president of Sierra Nevada College, Herron said.
Herron said she had yet to hear from North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District chief Mike Brown and South Tahoe Public Utility District General Manager Richard Solbrig, who both were asked to be on the peer panel. A sixth panelist, Douglas County Manager Steve Mokrohisky, declined an invitation, Herron said.
Sacramento-based Peckham & McKenney Executive Search and Consulting — which the district board hired earlier this year to find a replacement for outgoing GM Bill Horn — set up the process for Oct. 7.
Each finalist will give a presentation in the morning, prior to interviews before each panel from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., according to a schedule provided to the Bonanza.
After debriefing of the panels, a social reception will occur from 5:30 to 7 p.m., allowing residents to speak one-on-one with the candidates.
The full process will be open to the public, Herron said.
In a Wednesday interview, Phil McKenney said Oct. 7 will mark the first time the IVGID board will interact with all six candidates.
Initially, 158 people applied for the general manager position, said McKenney, who eventually whittled the list down to 17, all of whom the search firm interviewed.
“Seventeen, that’s a very large number,” McKenney said. “I’m usually used to 10 or 11, but based on the board’s desire to see (candidates) from the private and public sectors, it was that many…”
McKinney then narrowed the list to 11 before involving IVGID trustees by supplying each with information on the candidates.
Without knowing candidates’ names, locations or other redacted information, each of the trustees gave feedback to McKenney to create the final six-person list.
The trustees acted independently in their responses, McKenney said.
