INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Diamond Peak Ski Resort is rolling out a number of new features and programs for the 2013-14 ski season.

As many Tahoe resorts learned recently — particularly during the snow-starved winters of 2011-12 and 2012-13 — snowmaking is key in building a good base and maintaining conditions when Mother Nature decides not to help.

This summer, Diamond Peak added five more-energy-efficient fan guns, boosting its snowmaking fleet by 50 percent, according to a release from the resort.

“These new fan guns will help us maximize our system in key times and produce a better product,” said Jack Coughlin, Slope Maintenance Manager, in a statement. “But we’re all hoping for a big year.”

The resort also will introduce “Terrain Based Teaching” into beginner lessons this winter. According to the resort, this method incorporates small terrain features — including a mini-half pipe, rollers and a spine — as part of a young one’s learning progression.

Like every year, Diamond Peak and the US Forest Service performed defensible space within the forest at the resort to reduce fire danger. The work also allows for new off-piste skiable terrain this winter in the trees between Battleborn and Sunnyside, located off Crystal Ridge.

The resort also will add several dates to its popular Last Tracks wine and ski event, which takes place every Saturday, February through April. This season, a few Fridays will be added to the lineup, including a special Valentine’s Day Last Tracks.

Following the lead of several regional resorts in recent years, Diamond Peak has struck a partnership with Homewood Mountain Resort on the West Shore. This winter, passholders at each resort will receive four free, non-holiday lift tickets to the other resort. The partnership also includes Red Lodge Mountain in Montana.

A new and improved http://www.DiamondPeak.com will launch in early November, according to the resort. The site will include an upgraded online store, allowing for purchases of lift tickets, in addition to the current offerings of Mini-Passes, Season Passes, Last Tracks and gift cards.

The website will be more interactive with a “What’s Happening at the Peak” social component that highlights the resort’s social network feeds, in addition to guest photos and event updates.

Lastly, on each Friday from Feb. 28 through March 28, the resort will host Face/Off Fridays, aimed at college students and “those who just like to start their weekend early,” officials said, featuring deals for college students, rail jam competitions, games, prizes and music.
