Obituary: Ted Lewis
May 16, 2013
Ted Lewis, longtime Tahoe City businessman and amateur comedian extraordinaire, passed January 2013 with family beside him.
Born to Navy parents in 1923, his family lived in Guam, eastern US and England, before settling in Marin Co. Ted arrived in the Sierras during college years before entering WWII in the 10th Mountain Division ski troops. After the war he returned to Donner Summit ski areas where he met his wife, Peggy, in the big winter of 1952.
Together they built a home and raised 2 daughters in Tahoe City. Ted owned service stations; Richfield in Kings Beach, & Shell in Tahoe City until 1978 when he then continued working at Chevron. He was committed to playing tennis; his crazy jokes, infectious smile and care towards all customers brought them back daily for a dose of his humor and happy nature.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy, his sister Roberta, his daughters Linda and Sue, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
For all who knew him, a celebration of the life of Ted Lewis will be held June 1st from 1-3:30 at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 3125 N Lake Blvd, Tahoe City. Ted would love everyone to keep laughing and play more tennis: "your court or mine!" Donations of any amount may be made in his name to NTPUD Friends of the Park Tennis fund at http://northtahoeparks.com/friends-of-the-park.php
Ted's life at Tahoe was featured last fall at the 60th Anniversary party that was held in honor of his marriage to Peg, and to the marriage of Liz and Jean Jacque Legras. The foursome had all met at Donner Summit in 1952, married that year and remained friends raising their families and working in the Tahoe area.
