Opinion: Shame on the Placer County Board of Supervisors

To the Placer County Board of Supervisors:

I attended the September 13th meeting where Martis Valley West was decided and cannot begin to tell you the anger and frustration I feel with this decision.

There are so many flaws in your decision to approve this development. You would rather ally with the mega developer than respect the concerns of the local environment and its constituency.

You would rather rely on faulty or questionable data than listen to the opposing arguments. I truly believe your minds were already made up before the hearing for a truly open-minded, non-judgmental panel would have heard the clear and reasonable arguments for the denial of this inappropriate project.

Why would you not take into consideration the numerous comments about what life is like off of Highway 267 from the people who actually live there?

Only Jennifer Montgomery (who voted no) is a local resident. The rest of you live outside the Tahoe region, so perhaps you should have been more respectful of first-hand observations.

You are elected officials and therefore are supposed to consider the opinions of your constituents. The overwhelming majority of “No on Martis Valley” people was not acknowledged by you.

You have disregarded the expert opinion of environmentalists, factual and appropriate statistics, a review by the California Attorney General, and the will of the local populace.

You have imposed a ruling that is unjust and not representative of the people you represent. Who elected you? The people did — not the developers. Shame on you for such an egregious decision.
