Opinion: Too much at stake to let a celebrity clown like Trump lead America

In response to Bryan DeVoe’s My Turn column on Feb. 17, “We all should respect the office of the president,” your last sentence summed it up best: “We can choose not to respect Trump, while still respecting the Office, and that’s what most of us are doing.”

I work as a physician at The Reno VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System and I can assure you that I am privileged to help take care of America’s servicemen and women.

While doing so, the patients I see often bring up their feelings and opinions about the current holder of the Oval Office. And, I can assure you that I had to endure plenty of vitriol about former President Barack Obama.

One Korean veteran brought me a cartoon picture of Mr. Obama with his head up his a**, as if I was supposed to think it was funny.

Another thing I don’t think is funny is somebody holding the highest office in the WORLD — when he is completely unqualified to do so — and that is why I will continue to criticize Trump. The man, not the office. And IKEA has better cabinets!

And as far as violent protesters hiding their faces, there is some evidence that some are paid anarchists, brought in to discredit the peaceful protesters. I grew up in Santa Cruz in the ‘60s, and when I march for something, I do it with conviction and with my face bare for anybody to see. Like I did on Jan. 21.

I thank you for your service (my husband is also a Vietnam vet), and your sacrifice, and your efforts to stop the Westboro Baptist Church, and for attending vet’s funerals, but please remember that there is way too much at stake to let a celebrity clown like Trump, with his boorish comments, and flea-like attention span, be the leader of the Free World.
