Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe introduces new executive chef

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe has named Stanley Miller the new executive chef. Chef Miller will oversee all hotel culinary activities including the kitchens for signature restaurant Manzanita, The Living Room, MountainBlue, 24-hour in-room dining and the resort’s extensive banquet and catering offerings.

Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, Chef Miller most recently served as the executive sous chef at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, Fla. During his tenure, he was selected to participate as a culinary trainer for two international openings of Ritz-Carlton hotel properties, and was responsible for the management of the hotel’s culinary team, development of menus and guest dining experiences. He brings 16 years of culinary skill to North Lake Tahoe.

When describing his passion in the kitchen, Chef Miller said, “Quality, detail and perfection are at the core of my belief system, along with an intense passion and drive for what I do. I always use the highest quality ingredients to produce the best product, and continually refine my skills by challenging myself daily. I love what I do, and it reflects in everything I produce.”



With experience as a sous chef, banquet chef, line cook and pastry chef, Miller is well versed in the culinary arts, as well as creative development and execution of new menus. His varied experience working at restaurants and hotel properties in Miami, New York City and Atlanta gives him a unique perspective and have contributed to his culinary leadership.

Stanley Miller was born and raised in a rural community in the northwestern area of Ohio where he embarked on his journey into culinary arts at the age of 13. His family owned a butcher shop where he served as an apprentice and by age 16, was running the store as though it were his own. He furthered his culinary career at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, S.C., graduating in 1999.



CULINARY ADVENTURES AND SUMMER FAVORITES

Backyard Barbecue Family Cookout: Friday evenings will buzz with live entertainment while guests watch the sunset and take in the mountain air on the Backyard Terrace starting at 6 p.m. The cookout is offered for $55 per person, exclusive of alcohol. Wind down the weekend at Manzanita with Whole Roast Sundays beginning at 5:30 p.m. and featuring a chef’s choice pre-fixe three-course menu for $65 per person ($80 with wine pairing) that includes salad, entrée with sides and dessert.

Behind the Scenes: The resort’s culinary team will host complimentary kitchen tours twice a week, as well as opportunities for children to make their own sundae creations, and decorate cookies or cupcakes inside MountainBlue. Weekly interactive cooking classes will be offered throughout the summer, led by the culinary team at Manzanita for guests interested in working side-by-side with the chef in the restaurant’s open kitchen. Participants will learn some of the chef’s culinary techniques, and to prepare the innovative dishes they’ll devour that evening at the Chef’s Table, featuring direct views into Manzanita’s exposition kitchen. Advance reservations are required and based on availability. Offered Wednesday afternoons 2-6 p.m. for $125 per person.

Art of the Cocktail: Saturday afternoons 3:30-4:30 p.m. featuring a flight of cocktails from around the world for $40 per person.

Art of the S’more: The year-round favorite continues as a daily offering for resort guests. Centered around the outdoor fire pit every evening, the resort’s marshmologist entertains and assists guests as they create their own ultimate roasted s’more treat. Guests are also invited to relax and enjoy the comfort of The Living Room or the warmth of the afternoon on the Backyard Terrace with happy hour specials and themed signature cocktails offered Sunday through Thursday, 4-6 p.m. New this summer, the resort will showcase featured beverages each day, with the Sunday special being the “Smoretini,” the mojito on Mondays, tequila on Tuesdays, wine on Wednesdays, and $3 domestic beers on Thursdays.
