Weather permitting, the Wolverines will end the season with a three-game league series at home against Dayton on Friday (2 p.m., 4 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m.).

Practice paid off for the Truckee softball team on Tuesday. The Wolverines excelled in all facets of the game — committing only one error, banging out 11 hits and limiting their opponent to only three hits — en route to a 9-3 league win at Sparks.

“It all came together today,” Truckee coach Chris Simpson said. “We played really well. Everyone hit with solid defense. (We’re) doing the happy dance.”

The Wolverines scored early and often and never trailed. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning and adding a run in the third, three more in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. Sparks scored all three runs in the bottom of the third.

Cheyenne Brown was Truckee’s Player of the Game, as the junior went 2-for-4 with a home run, triple and two RBIs while also pitching four scoreless innings. She allowed only one hit and one walk and struck out five.

Ellie Simpson pitched three innings, striking out four while giving up three runs on one hit and seven walks.

Anna Hudson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, Evelyn Pena was 3-for-4 with a double, Danielle Jackson had a triple, and Adela Ortiz, Katie Fisher and Stephanie Randall all singled.

Truckee improved to 2-19 in the Northern Division I-A and 5-20 overall as Sparks fell to 5-16 in league and 6-19-1 overall.
