Incline basketball | Highlanders roll vs. rival Lakers
January 27, 2014
Incline is scheduled to play at Pershing County on Saturday. The Highlanders then host West Wendover next Friday and White Pine the next day.
The Incline basketball teams had little trouble with visiting rival North Tahoe on Friday, as the girls routed the Lakers 40-15 before the boys rolled to a 73-38 win.
Using their aggressive full-court press, Incline's girls allowed only one point in each of the first two quarters en route to a 20-2 halftime lead.
Junior Molly Franklin led the Highlanders with a 21-point effort, making 8 of her 16 shots from the field and two of her four 3-point attempts. Senior Kortney Solis added six points and Kerrie Tonking three.
With the win Incline remains undefeated in Northern Division III play, at 7-0. The Highlanders are 16-1 overall.
The Incline boys dominated equally, as they outscored the Lakers 22-7 in the first quarter and 22-5 in the second to take a commanding 44-12 lead into the half. As a team, Incline finished with 18 steals in the game.
Senior guard Orin Porter led all scorers with 28 points to go along with his six steals, five assists and five rebounds. Jack Bessette scored 11 points, while Christian Biscotti added eight points, Ben Snyder and Matt Hanna had seven points apiece, and Jack Clouthier finished with six points, seven rebounds and four steals. Snyder also pulled down 10 rebounds — eight in the first half — and controlled the paint whenever on the floor.
Incline got the job done without junior starting point guard Alex Zissis, who was out with a bruised hip. Zissis is expected to return for Incline's next game at Pershing County on Saturday.
For North Tahoe, Alex Tyler scored 18 points and Alex Bourriague scored 10 points.
The Highlanders improved to 6-2 in league and 13-6 overall.
