Incline prep roundup: Highlanders top Battle Mountain in volleyball

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Ellis Kirkland posted 11 kills and eight digs, leading the Incline volleyball team to a 3-1 win (25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 25-11) over Battle Mountain in a 2A Northern League match last Saturday in Incline Village.

The Highlanders’ Madison Cronk added nine kills, Chandler Cohn had seven kills and 10 digs and Madeleine Saxe spun over four aces.

The win came a day after a 3-1 league loss to Pershing County last Friday.



The Incline JV, meanwhile, topped Pershing County 2-0 (25-11, 25-15). Olivia Schneider led the way with seven kills.

The Incline varsity squares off with West Wendover at 6 p.m. Friday and faces White Pine at noon Saturday.



Girls soccer: Incline edges Elko, falls to Spring Creek

The Incline girls soccer team bounced back from a 4-2 loss to Spring Creek on Friday to push past Elko 3-2 in 2A Northern League action last Saturday.

Incline hosts South Tahoe at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Boys soccer: Highlanders tie Elko

Chris Contreras scored the Incline boys soccer team’s lone goal in its 1-1 tie with Elko in a 2A Northern League showdown last Saturday at Elko High School.

Incline (5-1-2, 0-0-2) hosts South Tahoe on Wednesday.

Boys tennis: Incline drops North Tahoe, Fallon

Colin Drewes won all three singles matches and the doubles tandems had a clean sweep as the Incline boys tennis team defeated North Tahoe 15-3 last Thursday in Incline Village.

Two days earlier, the Highlanders (3-1) rolled to a 12-6 road win over Fallon. Drewes led the way with three singles wins. Logan Eckert added two wins, while Tyler Knight and Dillon Jenkins chipped in one win apiece.

Girls tennis: Highlanders blank Lakers, edged by Fallon

Led by the hitting power of Laurel Taylor and Anna Cole at singles, the Incline girls tennis team barely broke a sweat in an 18-0 rout of North Tahoe last Thursday.

The win was a much-needed boost for the Highlanders (2-2), who had lost their previous two matches by narrow margins, including a 10-8 fall to Fallon last Tuesday.

Girls cross-country: Highlanders compete at North Tahoe invite

Incline girls cross-country runners Ursalu Volz and Kate Rye took to the trails Saturday for the North Tahoe Kiwanis Invitational in Tahoe City.

Volz, a senior, clocked in at 27 minutes, 12.6 seconds to take 16th overall while Rye, a junior, took 30th in 28:19.6.
