Incline swimming | Girls compete in state championship

Five Incline swimmers represented the Highlanders in the Division I-A state championships in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Freshman Ciera Winberg led the way, as she qualified at regionals to compete in two events in the state meet. She placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:23.30 and was seventh in the 500 free with a time of 6:29.07.

Kristina Goetz also placed eighth in the 50 free, posting a time of 29.00, while the Incline girls 200 free relay squad of Kerrie Tonking, Marcella Collins, Jessica George and Goetz finished sixth with a time of 1:59.55.



Tonking’s participation marked the third state championship her senior year. She also was part of the state champion soccer and basketball teams.

With their crew of five, the Incline girls tied with Fallon for seventh with 12 points. The Boulder City girls, who had multiple swimmers in almost every event, won the state title with 220 points to runner-up Truckee’s 78. South Tahoe was third with 65 points, followed by Faith Lutheran (44), Lowry (38) and Clark (24).



Boulder City’s boys also won the state title, accumulating 157 points to second-place Truckee’s 74 points and third-place Sage Ridge’s 61.
