The North Tahoe baseball team won both ends of a crucial league doubleheader at rival Incline on Saturday, 7-3 and 12-9, to improve to 7-1 in Division III play.

With the pair of losses Incline fell to 6-4 and into fifth place in the league standings with only two doubleheaders remaining, against 5-3 Pershing County and undefeated Battle Mountain (8-0).

The Highlanders and Lakers, who are in second place with three league series remaining, are battling to finish among the top four seeds in order to advance to the regional postseason.

Senior pitcher and shortstop Wildon DesLauriers helped lift the Lakers to victory with his bat and arm on Saturday.

DesLauriers fanned 15 Incline hitters in a three-hit complete game in the opener and helped his cause with a two-run home run. He followed up the performance with a grand slam and five RBIs in Game 2.

Facing Incline starter Masxsimo Battel, who went the distance in Game 1, the Lakers got off to a hot start with a four-run first inning highlighted by DesLauriers’ home run. They added a run in the second to extend the lead to 5-0, then added two more in the top of the fourth before the Highlanders got on the board with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning

North Tahoe senior Alex Tyler finished with two hits, including a double, Shane Christian had a double, single and two RBIs, and Mitchell Myers had an RBI. For Incline, Kenny Savelieff and Tommy Dolan each contributed a hit and RBI, and Nicky Witty drove in a run.

The Lakers carried their momentum into Game 2. After scoring a run in the first off of Dolan, who started and lasted three innings, they added four more runs in the second inning and six in the third, when DesLauriers connected for his grand slam.

The Highlanders did not throw in the towel, as they scored three runs in the third off of Christian to narrow the lead to 11-4. Incline scored once more in the fourth and once in the fifth against Tyler, who pitched three-plus innings in relief.

The hosts made some noise in the seventh, pushing across three runs to pull to within three, but DesLauriers recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

Aside from the damage inflicted by DesLauriers, Tyler drove in two runs with a double, Tyler Olk finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Myers had an RBI. Miles Johansen added two hits and Bourriague one hit.

Dolan led the Highlanders with two home runs and three RBIs, while Tommy Thompson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Witty had three hits, including a double. Jack Clouthier, who pitched the final four innings, and Savelieff also doubled, and Ben Snyder had two hits.
