North Tahoe baseball | Lakers sweep past Ruby Mountain League
April 1, 2013
The North Tahoe baseball team swept past White Pine and Battle Mountain in a Division III crossover tournament against the Ruby Mountain League this past weekend.
The Lakers (6-4) defeated White Pine in convincing fashion, 13-0, on Friday before taking down a quality Battle Mountain team, 7-4, on Saturday. The other DIII Ruby Mountain League school, West Wendover, does not have a baseball program this year.
Junior Wildon DesLauriers started against White Pine and held the Bobcats scoreless through four innings in the shortened game, which ended on the 10-run mercy rule. He recorded seven strikeouts while allowing only two hits and a walk.
North Tahoe's offense, meanwhile, had 12 hits, with senior Colin Spencer leading the way with a 4-for-4 performance with two RBIs. Lucas Likes also had two hits and two RBIs, and DesLauriers had two hits and three stolen bases. Shane Christian, Mitchell Myers, Tyler Olk and Alex Tyler each contributed one hit.
Spencer started against Battle Mountain and held the Longhorns scoreless in every inning but the second, when they scored four runs (only one earned). Spencer struck out seven and gave up four hits and four walks. His Lakers scored two runs in the second and two more in the third to tie the score. They then surged ahead with a three-run fourth.
The Lakers managed six hits, with Myers going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Spencer going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex Bourriague and Tyler each had one hit.
North Tahoe is scheduled to play a Mount Rose League doubleheader at Truckee on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
