North Tahoe knocked out of baseball playoffs

The North Tahoe High School varsity baseball season ended on Friday, May 12, when the Lakers were knocked out of the playoffs in a 15-12 loss to West Wendover in Yerington, Nev.

The Lakers got off to a good start scoring three runs in the top half of the first inning, and then six more runs in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead.

North Tahoe added one more run in the fourth inning before the Wolverines started to claw their way back into the loser’s bracket game of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association 2A Northern League Baseball Tournament.



The Wolverines scored two runs in the top half of the fourth innning, and then two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

North Tahoe responded with two runs in the top half of the sixth inning. But the Wolverines put up seven runs in the sixth inning to leave the Lakers with a 12-11 lead.



West Wendover was able to hold the Lakers scoreless in the top half of the seventh inning, and then racked up four runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away.

Seniors Corwin Benskin and Trent Lingruen led the Lakers offense with three RBIs, each. North Tahoe had 14 hits in the game.

North Tahoe ended up in the loser’s bracket after dropping a 7-6 semifinals game to Battle Mountain on May 12. The Lakers ended their season with an overall record of 23-8, and 16-5 in league.

Yerington won the 2A Northern League tournament with a 15-0 victory against West Wendover on Saturday, May 13. Statistics were provided by maxpreps.com.
