The North Tahoe boys lacrosse team earned every bit of their High Sierra Lacrosse League championship.

Entering the title game against Bishop Manogue this past Saturday with a flawless 12-0 record, the Lakers club team took it to the Miners en route to a 19-4 win. The victory marked North Tahoe’s first High Sierra Lacrosse League (HSLL) title.

The Lakers squad saved their best performance of the season for the championship.

From the opening faceoff North Tahoe came out strong with two quick goals from Garret Driller. Bishop Manogue attempted to rally but was shut down by the Lakers’ suffocating defense and great goal tending from Ryan Conner.

On North Tahoe’s next possession Chase Whitney found Justin Wadsworth wide open in front of the Miners goal for an easy score and 3-0 lead. North Tahoe controlled the next two faceoffs, which led to two more quick strikes from Whitney and Tanner Quennneville.

With the Lakers up 5-0, the stunned Miners called a timeout in an attempt to slow North Tahoe’s momentum. However, the Lakers’ relentless defensive pressure and strong offensive play continually kept the Miners off balance. North Tahoe’s strong ball movement on offense continued to pick apart Bishop Manogue’s defense en rout to the big win.

Offensively, Quenneville and Wadsworth had five goals each, while Driller and Whitney contributed four goals each. Stein Arntson and Driller were dominant on faceoffs. Defensively, Ryan Conner, Conner Gebhardt, Ethan Faye, Luke Taylor &and Blaize Bibolet each contributed to the big win.

The Lakers finished the season 13-0.
