North Tahoe soccer | Boys earn win at Division I-A Fallon

FALLON — After conceding an early goal, the North Tahoe boys soccer team rebound to run past Fallon, 3-1, Wednesday in a nonleague match.
Fallon’s Fidel Enriquez opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a blast past a sliding Lakers goalkeeper Omar Vargas. Enriquez’s goal was set up off an assist from Raymundo Martinez, who slid a pass through the North Tahoe defense, and Enriquez raced to the ball and beat Vargas.
“Defensively, I think the boys were doing what they were supposed to be doing,” North Tahoe coach Beto Alcaraz said.
The Lakers, though, regrouped and found their own holes to open the second half. North Tahoe scored twice in five minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
Jesus Ortega slapped a pass to Edgar Delgado down the left side, and Delgado slipped a bending grounder past Fallon goalkeeper Brandon Holler.
Four minutes later, Adrian Ortega blasted a shot from the wing, but it was saved by Holler. The rebound, however, was volleyed into the net by Omar Cerda, who was alone in front of the goal.
“I think the passing was better in the second half,” Alcaraz said. “The second half, we came out much stronger.”
Fallon nearly tied the game in the 70th minute when Austin Bischoff’s shot was stopped by a diving Vargas.
North Tahoe iced the match three minutes later when Adrian Ortega found the back of the net on a shot from the top of the goal box. He took a pass, turned and fired a strike past Holler.
“Being patient … if we saw one side wasn’t open, we went to the other side,” Alcaraz said. “I think our communication was excellent.”
Girls fall to strong Greenwave team
A pesky North Tahoe club struggled to stop Fallon’s horizontal runs and as a result, the Greenwave came away with a 4-0 win Wednesday in Fallon.
The Lakers battled tough in the first half, surrendering one goal, a beautiful volley from Rebecca Mills to Maddie Alegre.
Alegre and Mills hooked up again five minutes into the second half when Alegre lofted a pass to Mills, and Mills drove home the shot. The Fallon duo added two more goals in the 60th and 80th minutes, respectively, to give the Wave a nonleague victory.
“I think the girls adjusted well,” North Tahoe coach Kristin Carlson said. “Playing a team that’s strong like this, we lost some of our marks.”
Both North Tahoe teams will travel to White Pine and West Wendover on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers then head to Whittell on Tuesday and host Yerington next Friday. The Lakers end the regular season at Incline on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
