For the second consecutive year Squaw Valley will host the best ski racers in the country at the 2014 Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships from March 19-23.

Only this year, many of the athletes will be fresh off competing in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

In addition to the U.S. Alpine Championships, Squaw Valley will also host a “welcome home” celebration for all of the Olympic athletes from the Reno/Tahoe area.

The celebration will take place the evening of Friday, March 21, and will feature an athlete parade, fireworks, athlete autograph session, live music and more.

“It takes a community to raise an Olympian — and it takes a community to welcome them home,” said Andy Wirth, president and CEO of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. “We invite everyone to join us as our entire community welcomes home our region’s athletes from competing so very well in Russia.”

Squaw Valley athlete and Olympic gold medalist Julia Mancuso will be among the competing athletes, as will four-time Olympian Marco Sullivan and Travis Ganong, who placed fifth in the downhill in his first Olympics.

“It’s great to get to race at my home mountain and it’s awesome to have Squaw’s support for ski racing,” Mancuso said. “They did an exceptional job last season, so I definitely look forward to some more great races on home snow during Nationals.”

In addition to the Squaw Valley athletes, Olympic gold medalists Bode Miller, Ted Ligety and Mikaela Shiffrin are expected to compete, as well as Andrew Weibrecht.
