Sugar Bowl hosts Far West U10/12 Championships

Far West skiers raced four events in each age group at the U10/12 Championships at Sugar Bowl this past weekend. The U10 racers competed in slalom, giant slalom, big G and parallel, while the U112 athletes raced super G, GS, slalom and parallel.

On the U10 boys side, Northstar’s Nickco Palamaras earned first place in the slalom, GS and parallel.

Zack Staudenmeyer of Squaw Valley was second in the slalom and was followed by Sugar Bowl’s Charlie Pantelick in third. Jacob Nguyen of Diamond Peak placed fourth, William Franklin of Sugar Bowl was fifth, Marco Brougher of Squaw Valley sixth, Sugar Bowl’s Luke Shane seventh and Alex Robb eighth. Marc Durant-Bender of Squaw placed ninth and Nate Williams of SSRT was 10th.



In the U10 boys GS, CJ Eftekhari of Squaw took fourth, Zack Staudenmayer fifth, Kai Subith sixth, Gino Luchetti seventh, Thomas Pogue eighth, Nate Williams ninth and Lukas Hendricks 10th.

The top of the podium for the U10 boys big G was Sugar Bowl’s Alex Robb along with teammate Jake McDonald taking third and SSRT’s Thomas Pogue in second. Lucas Hendricks took third, Bjorn Karlen fourth, Parker Gummins fifth, Will Franklin sixth, Zack Staudenmey seventh, Charlie Pantelick eighth and Joseph Standteiner of SBST 10th.



On the girls U10 side, Alpine Meadows’ Sidney Sung topped the podium in slalom and was followed by Mary Davis of Squaw in second and Brenna Ritchie of Diamond Peak in third. Squaw Valley’s Kacey Benjaminson was fourth and was followed by teammate Ella Williams in fifth, Lauren Sung of Alpine Meadows in sixth, Emma Speiser of Squaw in seventh and teammates Seti Capelli eighth, Simone Lapointe ninth and Madeline Thiara 10th.

For the U10 girls GS event, Squaw Valley’s Emma Speiser topped the podium, Diamond Peak’s Brenna Ritchie was second, Madeline Thiara was fourth, Rylee Rust of Squaw Valley sixth, Mary Davis seventh, Elena Messener of SBST eighth, Carley Hamilton of SVST ninth and Clarwa Pedrazzini of SBST 10th.

Emma Speiser once again topped the podium for the girls U10 big G and was followed by her teammate Simone Lapointe and Heavenly Valley’s Allison Mollen in third. Brenna Ritche took fourth, Carley Hamilton fifth, Izzie Pullen of SBST sixth, Sophie Spokes seventh, Ellie Tunnel eighth, Chaney Szeto ninth and Ella Hartmanis 10th.

For the U12 boys, Squaw Valley’s Guthrie Goss topped the podium in the super G and slalom events and took second in the GS. In the super G, he was followed by SSRT’s Alec Burton and Lance Davenport. Sugar Bowl’s Connor Sweeney was fourth, followed by teammates James Kelly in fifth, Luke Hammarskjold in sixth, Alexander Grosse seventh, Diamond Peak’s Aiden Pretti eighth, James Spokes of SBST ninth and Chilli Messner 10th.

Sugar Bowl’s Michael Punchkov took third in the boys U12 GS race and was followed by teammate Conner Sweeney in fourth, Danny Kelsay of Squaw fifth, Johann Hudson of SBST sixth, Dylan Thomas seventh, SBST’s Ethan Veghte eighth, Caleb Horsh ninth and Squaw’s Brandon Leitner 10th.

The Boys U12 slalom event took place on Saturday and Goss was followed by teammate Danny Kelsay in second, SBST’s Michael Punchkov third, Alec Burton fourth, Dylan Thomas fifth, Brandon Leitner sixth, Alexander Grosse seventh, Teagan Turner of SBST eighth, Johann Hudson ninth and Felix Gramanz 10th.

Among U12 girls, Sugar Bowl’s Georgie Sullivan topped the podium in the super G and GS. She was followed by her teammate Shannon Watridge and Squaw’s Maile Markham in the super G. SBST’s Madasyn Mueller was fifth, followed by teammate Gabriella Kogler in sixth, Squaw’s Karina Maretl in seventh, Alia Sinoff eighth, Jillian Larrabee of Sugar Bowl ninth and Alpine’s Arnsley Akers 10th.

For the GS event also on the podium was Gabriella Kogler of SBST and Apline’s Aliza Neu. Julia Holm of Squaw took fourth with SBST’s Shannon Watridge in fifth, Squaw Valley’s Lauren Palermo sixth, Michelle Morozinski seventh, Maya Wong eighth and Karina Martel ninth.

For the girls U12 slalom, Squaw Valley’s Lauren Palermo topped the podium followed by teammate Julia Holm and Mia Rathsack in third. Kate Norton was fourth, Shannon Watridge fifth, Lauren Speiser sixth, Maya Wong seventh, Eva Turk eighth, Georgie Sullivan ninth and Paloma Nolan-Bowers 10th.
